Day 2: February 9, 2014

Everyone is now on the board!

Things are picking up steam quickly (and then freezing because, you know, it's winter) as we enter Day 2 of the Sochi games.  Every team now has a medal winner on board.  Get ready for more to drop as the competition continues!

The biggest spreading of the wealth today came through the team figure skating event final.  If your team had a Russian, Canadian, or US figure skater on board, you ended up with points.  Putin was in the stands, so it was inevitable that Russia would win gold.  I'm sure the judges were under pressure.

Insert Team Name Here finally got a snowboard prediction right with Jamie Anderson taking the gold, however this was in the wild card spot and not the drafted snowboarder Torah Bright, who came up short in this event but is the only snowboarder to compete in three events.

Team Mark and Putin on the Ritz had a showdown in Long-Track with Team Mark coming out on top as Irene Wust took the gold for the Netherlands over Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic.  Always bet on the Dutch and their crazy aqueduct skaters.

Two Luge medals were handed out today, but NBC had nothing covering it on TV!  I was disappointed as I really enjoy watching the luge, but Felix Loch won the men's singles gold as predicted, appropriately supporting Cold Runnings' point total.  Armin Zoeggeler was a gold contender but settled for the bronze for Gold Rush'n, getting the team on the board.

The other main points achieved today were on the ski jump with all three medal winners on teams - Cuban Medal Crisis had Kamil Stoch from Poland flying to gold.  Cold Runnings had Peter Prevc from Slovenia with the Silver, and Live Weyer gets on the board with Anders Bardal from Norway.  Norway has medaled in 7 of 13 events.

Interestingly enough there were biathlon and cross country events today but none of our team members medaled.  The games are unpredictable!

Good luck in Day 3.
